Single‐stranded chromosomal DNA was covalently bound to a microdilution plate and used for quantitative DNA‐DNA hybridization. After 30 min, hybridized DNA was quantitatively detected by alkaline phosphatase and a chemiluminescent substrate. This method was successfully used for the rapid identification of viridans streptococci.
