Summary The stimulation by ATP of β glucan synthase activities of cell‐free extracts of Saprolegnia monoica was enhanced by the presence of glucose‐phosphates. These effects were obtained in conditions of 1,4‐β glucan synthesis; on the contrary, strong inhibition was observed during 1,3‐β glucan production. This stimulation was suppressed when particulate enzymes were pretreated with phosphatase. These results suggest that phosphorylation is involved in regulation of β glucan synthesis.
