Summary We investigated the optimum conditions for the formation of a nitrilase, which acts on aliphatic nitriles, by Rhodococcus rhodochrous K22 and developed a growth medium containing isovaleronitrile, sorbitol, yeast extract, NZ amine and urea, and produced organisms containing approximately 20% of their total soluble protein as nitrilase.
