Eubacteria which contain S ‐adenosylhomocysteine hydrolase (EC 3.3.1.1) do not contain methylthioadenosine/adenosylhomocysteine nucleosidase (EC 3.2.2.9). In these microorganisms, 5′‐deoxymethylthioadenosine is phosphorolyzed by methylthioadenosine phosphorylase (EC 2.4.2.28).
