The Bacillus subtilis spoIIA and spoIIAB genes were fused to the Escherichia coli lacZ gene on a novel integrational plasmid vector. The constructs were integrated into the B. subtilis chromosome, and used to show that the spoIIA locus was expressed at two times during sporulation.
