The TraT protein of Fo lac — Unlike TraT of F or R6‐5 — Does not restore outer membrane integrity in the SS‐A class of permeability mutants of Salmonella typhimurium

The TraT proteins produced by F or related plasmid R6‐5 restore the normal permeability barrier function of outer membrane of antibiotic‐supersensitive SS‐A mutants of Salmonella typhimurium . Despite of extensive homology between TraT proteins of F and Fo lac the protein of Fo lac , synthesized under repressed or derepressed conditions from traT introduced on different plasmids, did not complement the SS‐A phenotype.
