A 34.5‐kb plasmid has been studied in an isolate of Staphylococcus aureus . The plasmid had no detectable phenotype except that it was conjugative and mobilized non‐conjugative plasmids. Analysis with Eco RI restriction endonuclease and the lack of phenotypic markers indicated that the plasmid was different from other conjugative plasmids described in staphylococci.
