We have developed a transformation system for Streptomyces wadayamensis , a cephamycin C producer. 1−5 × 10 9 protoplasts can be obtained when late logarithmic phase cultures of this microorganisms are incubated with 10 mg/ml of lysozyme. Polyethylene glycol‐Ca 2+ ‐mediated transformation of these protoplasts yielded 10 6 transformants per μg of pIJ702 or pIJ365 DNA.
