Mitochondria isolated from mycelia of Neurospora crassa grown with l ‐proline as sole nitrogen source, oxidized l ‐proline at a high rate. Respiratory properties of these mitochondria and spectrophotometric measurements with artificial electron acceptors (PMS, INT) indicate that this oxidation is mediated by a flavoprotein linked to the respiratory chain.
