
No evidence for DNA in cyanobacterial carboxysomes

The possibility that cyanobacterial carboxysomes may contain DNA was investigated using Chlorogloeopsis 6912, Gloeobacter 7421 and Anabaena 7120. No evidence of extrachromosomal DNA was obtained in whole‐cell lysates or isolated disrupted carboxysomal fractions of Chlorogloeopsis or Gloeobacter . A plasmid of about 5 kb was found in Anabaena 7120 lysates, although this was localized in the supernatants of cell extracts and was not associated with particulate carboxysomal fractions.
