SUMMARY.  The long‐term effects of gastric banding on esophageal function are not well described. This report describes a 28‐year‐old woman who developed signs and symptoms of abnormal esophageal motility and lower esophageal sphincter hypotension after gastric banding for morbid obesity. The current literature addressing the effects of gastric banding on esophageal function in light of this case report is discussed.
