Summary Slowness methods have been widely used to study impulsive wave propagation and to compute synthetic seismograms. The generalized ray method and WKBJ seismograms are examples. When applied to a spherically symmetric model, asymptotic or numerical approximations have been used for the Legendre function. In this note it is pointed out that an analytic inverse transform exists for the Legendre function. This can be used when the waveslowness integral is real but cannot be used in the generalized ray method.
