Summary The perturbation of an oscillating geomagnetic field by two‐dimensional sloping discontinuities is investigated. A finite difference technique with the Gauss‐Seidel iteration method is applied in a cylindrical co‐ordinate system. An asymmetry in the iteration procedure is discussed. Conductivity discontinuities of five different slopes are studied for an oscillation period of 40 s.
