Summary A report is given of the results of six measurement sets taken from September 1970 to September 1973 across the Straits of Messina. The measurements were taken by means of a Mod. 8 AGA laser geodimeter of the length of the sides and diagonals of a quadrilateral with two points in Calabria and two in Sicily. The results seem to indicate a reciprocal displacement of the two coasts in the period between the first two measurements and a steady situation in the following period. This seems to be a confirmation of the plate tectonic theory in the considered area.
