Summary The Chapman‐Miller method is the one most widely used for the determination of lunar daily variations in geophysical data. The joint IAGA/ IAMAP committee on lunar variations has suggested that the method would be still more widely applied if a simple up‐to‐date account were available. This note is an attempt to provide such an account. The Chapman‐Miller method is described with minimum mathematical detail, the method of determination of probable errors is improved, and a computer program is appended.
