Summary The source and character of signal generated noise at Eskdalemuir array (EKA) is demonstrated. Analysis of records elsewhere demonstrates the the site dependence of the phenomenon. Criteria for selecting sites for standard three component instrumentation are formulated on the basis of these observations.
