Summary Bi‐hourly values of D, H and Z recorded at Hartland magnetic observatory during the IGY have been analysed for solar ( S ) and luni‐solar ( L ) daily variations. The results show that meaningful determinations can be obtained for such a short period. Significant differences between the results for Hartland and Abinger are indicated and briefly discussed.
