Summary A large variety of evidence is presented concerning reversal of the Earth's magnetic field during the Tertiary igneous activity in Northern Ireland. Different magnetic minerals, which acquired their natural moments in different ways, all support the reality of a field reversal, as opposed to self‐reversal of the rocks in a normal field.
