Summary There has been considerable dispute about the origin of the series of Carboniferous igneous formations in the neighbourhood of the Clee Hills, Shropshire. Palaeomagnetic measurements suggest that all the formations except one are intrusive. They also indicate that the accepted geological interpretation of one formation may require revision.
