Towards an Integrated Systems Approach for Mobile Traveller Applications

In this paper, we describe integrated information and communication platform to support mobile travelling and car-mounted applications. Various abstraction layers are introduced in order to provide a high degree of system flexibility and extensibility. After having worked out some prevalent requirements and technical challenges, we come up with an architectural approach that combines a communication platform with an information platform and a service platform as well as with a presentation platform. Different technologies, like XML, are evaluated for this purpose and compared with their alternatives.
