Handling the mobile network performance degradation due to packet loss during handoff is the main focus of this paper. In this paper, it has been shown that appropriate scheduling algorithms in existence of smaller receive window size, and multi-level priority queues in the base station, highly decreases the critical packet loss during handoff and improves throughput. Critical packets are defined according to application objectives. Combination of efficient scheduling algorithms, optimum window size and priority buffers have been proposed as a solution to decrease the critical packet loss and improve the quality of service. Simulation results shown here substantiate the ideas presented in this paper. Index: Smooth handoff, scheduling algorithms, mobility management and packet loss elimination.
