As the new editor of the Manager column, I want to assure regular readers that I will continue to address real-world management concerns. I will encourage columns that take on the conventional wisdom and that stress pragmatic discussions of problems in real-world software management, process, and technology. Obviously, I would like these columns to inform, but I think it?s even more important to get you to think about trends, question hype, and understand what ?no silver bullet? really implies. In the months ahead, guest columnists will address, among other things, process evolution, risk analysis, the personal software process, and software-engineering education. I?ve given these columnists free rein to take strong, even controversial positions. I?ve only applied one constraint: contributors must be pragmatic! I?m anxious to hear your comments and criticisms.? Roger Pressman
