The crystallization and preliminary X‐ray diffraction analysis of the chitin‐binding domain of chitinase from a hyperthermophilic archaeon, Pyrococcus furiosus , are reported. The recombinant protein was prepared using an Escherichia coli overexpression system and was crystallized by the hanging‐drop vapour‐diffusion method. An X‐ray diffraction data set was collected to 1.70 Å resolution. The crystal belonged to space group P 4 3 2 1 2 or P 4 1 2 1 2. The unit‐cell parameters were determined to be a = b = 48.8, c = 85.0 Å.
