The title compound, C 20 H 13 Br 3 Cl 2 O 2 , arose unexpectedly as the product of a bromination reaction. The bromo substituents at the central C—C single bond are trans to each other [Br—C—C—Br = 178.53 (13)°] and the dihedral angle between the mean planes of the aromatic ring systems is 38.28 (10)°.
