The title hydrated 2,2′‐bipyridine‐6,6′‐dicarboxylate–cadmium(II) complex, {[Cd(C 12 H 2 N 2 O 4 )(H 2 O) 2 ]·2H 2 O} n , crystallizes with eight oxygen‐bridged monomer units in the unit cell. The divalent cadmium ion is seven‐coordinate, and the coordination polyhedron can best be described as slightly distorted pentagonal–bipyramidal.
