A new dipolarophile for the construction of the bioactive title compound, C 18 H 18 N 2 O, was synthesized by base‐catalysed reaction of benzaldehyde with (4‐methoxyphenyl)acetonitrile. The olefinic bond connecting the (4‐methoxyphenyl)acetonitrile and the dimethylaminophenyl groups has a Z geometry.
