An orthorhombic form of dichlorotris(pentafluorophenyl)phosphorane, C 18 Cl 2 F 15 P, has been obtained as the product of the reaction between PhSeCl and (C 6 F 5 ) 3 P, and is a polymorph of the previously reported monoclinic form obtained from the reaction of (C 6 F 5 ) 3 P with Cl 2 . The molecule displays nearly perfect trigonal–bipyramidal geometry, and features a number of intermolecular F⋯F contacts, which lead to fluorous domains in the crystal packing.
