The title compound, C 16 H 16 N 2 O 5 , is a β‐ketoether derivative closely related to natural 8,4′‐oxyneolignans, which are of interest because of their moderate antifungal activity against systemic mycosis. The nitro group is not coplanar with the aromatic ring, as shown by a torsion angle of 47.2 (4)°. The molecules are linked by two non‐classical intermolecular C—H⋯O hydrogen bonds with distances between donors and acceptors of 3.441 (5) and 3.539 (5) Å, leading to the formation of molecular stacking perpendicular to the bc plane.
