This handbook claims to be based on about 1900 journals, and on s tandard works such as the International Critical Tables, Landolt B6rnstein Tabellen, Strukturberichte and the Tables Annuelles, up to 1 J a n u a r y 1948. In addit ion to a description of the chemical properties of various compounds, a comprehensive account is given of impor tan t physico-chemical data. These include properties of the solid s tate such as da ta for crystal chemistry, thermal t ransformations in the solid, vapour pressure, en t ropy of fusion, molar heat capacity, coefficient of expansion, and solubili ty in various solvents. Special properties such as the electrical conductivi ty, photosensi t ivi ty and magnetic susceptibil i ty of mixed crystals of Se/S are also included where relevant. The s tandard achieved for the section on selenium compounds is high and if i t can be mainta ined the eighth edition of this handbook should be even more valuable ~han ~6s predecessors for workers /al inorganic and physical chemistry, and in varlou~ br~noho~ of ~hemi~al physics.
