We present a fullpf-shell spectroscopy of the low-lying states of56Ni using the GXPF1A interaction. Boththe ground-state band and the first deformed band, as well as the transition probabilities, compare favorably withthe experimental data. We analyze the significance of the contributions ofN-particleN-hole configurations to thefull model calculations, similarly to the analysis obtained for28Si in thesdshell some 20 years ago.status: publishe
