We study the propagation of radiation through a disordered waveguide with acomplex dielectric constant $\epsilon$, and show that dual systems, whichdiffer only in the sign of the imaginary part of $\epsilon$, have the samelocalization length. Paradoxically, absorption and stimulated emission ofradiation suppress the transmittance of the waveguide in the same way.Comment: Added a reference to the paper by Z.Q.
