to Molecular and Cellular aspects of exocytosis. Proceedings of a symposium held in Milan, Italy on 24 and 25 June 1998. Organized and edited by F. Clementi, R. Fesce, J. Meldolesi and F. Valtorta. This short introduction summarizes part of the scientific studies carried out by Bruno Ceccarelli in the field of exocytosis/endocytosis, up to his premature death (1988), and emphasizes the importance of his findings at the present time. In addition, it introduces the small Association that friends and colleagues have established in the memory of Bruno, and describes the work done so far for the development of neurobiology in Italy.
