In connection with another investigation, not yet completed, certain abnormalities in the pituitary of the common frog were found. Several features made them seem extraordinary, and it was decided to investigate their structure and significance more minutely. In all, seven of these abnormal pituitaries were found. Two others had small tubercles on the surface of the anterior lobe but were completely free from any internal abnormalities—only one of these is described (Path. Pit. No. 4). Three types of abnormality were found: the first is due to a proliferation of cells in thepars nervosa and results in a large protuberance from that part of the gland; the second is a formation of non-ciliated vesicles; and the third, the formation of ciliated vesicles lined more or less completely by an epithelium. Evidence will be brought forward later to show that in all probability the two last types are merely variations of the same pathological condition.
