We consider non-equilibrium steady-state situations\udfor thermoelectric systems with non-local and nonlinear\udeffects. We show that the Onsager symmetry\udrelations for effective transport coefficients break\uddown. We also estimate the consequences of such\uda breakdown for the efficiency of the thermoelectric\udenergy conversion which, under some conditions,\udcould be higher than in the usual linear regime with\udOnsager symmetry
