I had the honour to describe to the Society in 1912 an instrument which I had devised for taking photographically, accurate records of the load and corresponding extensions of metal test pieces. Both in the paper and in the continuation of it, illustrations were given of many tests recorded by the instrument. The extension of the gauge length was multiplied on the record, but only moderately, so that the complete record of the test from no load to fracture came within the limits of the half-plate camera attached to the instrument.
