Sir Eric James Denton was stimulated by his deep interest in general physics to explore his wide fascination in the fundamentals of marine animal physiology. He applied physical principles to animal design in order to analyse the utilization of ambient light, reflectance, luminescence, sound reception, signalling and buoyancy and, in the process, became the foremost exponent of marine physiology of his time.
