The misdiagnosis between severe fever with thrombocytopenia syndrome and hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome were identified in endemic regions for both diseases. A model based on age, mouse/tick contact in recent one month, clinical characteristics including blush, low back pain, diarrhea, enlarged lymph nodes, and white blood cell count, yielded a high area under the curve of 0.985 (95% confidence interval, 0.979-0.992), enabling an effective differentiation between two diseases.
