There is increasing evidence to support the role of various acute phase reactants as an adjunct to clinical judgement in the management of various infections. Procalcitonin is more specific in diagnosing bacterial infections and has a wider role in the management of complex infections. Procalcitonin based antibiotic guidance is helpful in antibiotic management in patients with pneumonia and sepsis
