We present a general scheme for constructing potential-density basis sets in axisymmetric coordinates, for both infinite and finite systems. Several examples are given, starting from simple functions. The basis sets constructed are useful for galaxy modelling, N-body simulations and three-dimensional stability analyses of dynamical equilibria.
