There is an increasing interest in the possible role of fluoroquinolone antibiotics for the treatment of tuberculosis (TB), but widespread use of these antibiotics for the treatment of other bacterial infections may select for fluoroquinolone-resistant Mycobacterium tuberculosis strains.
