The mechanisms by which antibiotics induce a post-antibiotic effect in susceptible bacteria are poorly understood. To explore the mechanisms more fully we examined the recovery of macromolecular synthesis in Escherichia coli during gentamicin- and rifampicin-induced post-antibiotic effects.
