A homologue of the MacA-MacB ABC transporter of Escherichia coli, which recognizes and exports macrolides, was identified in Neisseria gonorrhoeae. This study was undertaken to determine whether gonococci could use the MacA-MacB homologue to express decreased susceptibility to macrolides.
