Experimental and registered insecticides were evaluated for efficacy against pale western cutworm in Yellowstone Co., Mont. Winter wheat was seeded in 12-in. rows in the fall of 1982. plots were 8 by 20 ft with four replications of each treatment, using a completely randomized design. Insecticides were applied on 9 May, with a backpaclc sprayer delivering 20 gal/acre at 30 Ib/in2. Treatments were evaluated on 24 May by sampling soil surrounding the middle 2 rows for 6 feet of linear row.
