‘Katahdin’ potatoes were planted on May 5 in Sunderland, Massachusetts. The soil type was a fine sandy loam with a pH of ca 5.5. Dinoseb was applied at 2 lb ai/acre prior to plant emergence. These trials were designed to examine the immediate effects of piperonyl butoxide (synergist) plus several insecticides. There were 2 separate trials; each trial was conducted in different parts of the field. There were 3 replicates per treatment average in a randomized complete block design. Each plot was 30 ft long by 2 rows. All applications were made with a 3 gal stainless steel CO2backpack sprayer, at 50 psi and 65 gal/acre. Trial I consisted of a single application of Pydrin, several combinations or Pydrin + piperonyl butoxide, Ammo and 2 combinations of Ammo + piperonyl butoxide applied Jul 14. No previous insecticide applications had been made to this field. The number of larvae per 10 stalks was determined for each plot.
