Four-year-old trees were used to test the timing of pesticides against the peach twig borer. The orchard was divided into three sections (blocks). Treatments were applied to subplots containing nine trees each on differing dates. The first application (subplots 1-5) was on June 21, the second (subplots 6-10) was on June 28, and the third (subplots 11-15) was on Jul 8. Applications were made with a handgun sprayer at 400-500 psi to the point of drip (approximately 400 gal per acre). On Jul 19 all subplots were examined for damage. The total number of wilted shoots per tree was counted and recorded.
