The plot was planted May 1 in muck soil near Potter, NY on the Palermo Farm. Plots were single rows, 30 ft long, replicated 4 times in a randomized block design. Germination, damage, and yield data were recorded from the center 20 ft of each row. All treatments were applied in the seed furrow with a hand-pushed cone seeder planting 9 seeds/ft and delivering 75 gpa through a gravity fed system. Dithane M-45 (80WP) was applied in the furrow with each treatment at 2.4 lb ai/acre for control of onion smut. Stand counts were taken May 29. Maggot damage was assessed by checking each row for wilted plats ca twice/week from the time of stand counts until harvest on Sep 16. Yield data were taken by pulling, topping, and weighing the onions in each 20 ft row.
