Three herds of cattle were treated with Ectiban permethrin, either as impregnated bands, as a low-pressure, high-concentration spray, or as a high-pressure, low-concentration spray. A fourth herd was treated with Ectrin eartags, and a fifth, untreated herd served as a control. Counts of horn flies and face flies and face flies were made on 10 animals in each treatment group (herd) on days 1, 3, and 5, and then each week for 13 wk. All herds except the controls were mixed-breed or Hereford cow-calf herds; the control herd was mixed-breed, yearling cattle. The 2 spray treatments were applied to all animals in the herd, but impregnated bands and eartags were not applied to calves. Percent control is defined as the difference between the treated count and the untreated count, divided by the untreated count and multiplied by 100%.
