Four insecticides were applied to the trunk and crown of flowering dogwoods (5-10 cm dia) on the University of Kentucky campus. Treatments were replicated 4 times in a randomized complete block design, and were applied Jun 11, 14 days after the estimated date of first adult emergence based on pupal skin counts. Trees were sprayed to run-off using a 7.6 liter (2 gal) compressed air sprayer, under sunny skies at 23°C with a slight breeze (8-16 kph). Approximately 160 ml of finished spray was applied per tree. Counts of live borers were made on Nov 1, by inspecting trees for fresh frass. As applied, none of the materials was phytotoxic.
