Acaricide treatments were applied on Jul 24 to five year old York trees. Treatments were applied with a Bean 35 gallon per minute hydraulic sprayer at 300 psi. Trees were sprayed to runoff. Single tree treatments were replicated 4 times in a randomized complete block design. Sampling was done by collecting 20 leaves from each tree and brushing them with a modified Henderson-McBurnie type machine. Mites and eggs were trapped in a thin layer of polyvinyl alcohol (Emcol 5100) on a revolving glass plate. Mites and eggs on two sections of each plate equalling 20% of the total area were counted. From this the number of mites and eggs on the plate was calculated. All treatments were compatible with horticultural practices and no phytotoxicity was observed. Other pesticides used throughout the season were Polyram, benomyl, captan, Dithane, phosalone, Pirimor, azinphosmethyl, Karathane, Manzate, thiram, and carbaryl.
