‘Green Giant 531’ peas were planted May 18 at Le Sueur, Minnesota. Plots were 10 x 50-ft, randomized in complete blocks with 4 replications. Treatments were applied Jul 14, approximately 2 weeks prior to harvest, with a tractor-drawn sprayer delivering 20 gal water/acre. Plots were sampled Jul 18 by shaking plants over a 14 x 18-inch food tray in 6 spots and by shaking plants and observing numbers of fallen larvae on the ground in 6 additional locations. This combination of sampling methods was used since each method had been noted to perform differently depending on the density of the foliage and the age of the larvae.
